Holiday House at Avoca Beach, NSW
Elegant • Modern • Natural
The owners wanted...
A holiday house that felt like an escape from normality the instant they walked in. They had a steep block so knew that a split level design would be required, they just needed someone to bring it to life. The major requests in the brief were to capitalise on the incredible view and to create something practical, beautiful and felt like a 'home-away-from-home'.
How WVA made that happen...
This (now award-winning) holiday house sits at the highest point of a very steep site. The road boundary faces west and the rear boundary east overlooking Avoca Beach and the ocean. We were commissioned to design a holiday house for a family of five. The house was divided in four levels: access is at street level with living area, kitchen and two sets stairs. One takes you into the upper level where the master bedroom , ensuite and balcony are. The set of stair takes you to the bedroom area. The lowest level (sauna and billiard room) opens into the outside patio and swimming pool. The external cladding is a combination of corrugated cladding, timber and rendered brickwork.
Over the past decade WVA has designed two houses. They helped us to design this award winning holiday house at Avoca Beach. William took into account our wishes to have an easy house near the beach and designed a home that takes advantage of the natural light and panoramic views that the site affords, while providing an easy living design on this difficult site. They also helped us to select a local builder and manage the job for us.
